The workshop offers two formats 3 or 5 days featuring daily one-on-one lessons with Maestro Claudio Ottino.

A High-Level Training Experience
in the Heart of Tuscany

A unique opportunity for opera singers: an intensive vocal masterclass led by renowned baritone Claudio Ottino, with piano accompaniment by Maestro Roberto Mingarini. The course takes place at the Civic School of Music in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of Tuscany’s Garfagnana region. Designed for singers in training as well as emerging professionals, the workshop focuses on vocal technique, stage interpretation, and stylistic nuance—with special emphasis on the comic roles of Italian opera.

At the end of the workshop, participants will perform in two public concerts:

  • Teatro Alfieri in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana

  • Isola Santa, a picturesque mountain village nestled in the Apuan Alps

At the end of the workshop, participants will receive a certificate of participation, eligible for academic credit.

Claudio Ottino

Internationally acclaimed baritone-bass Claudio Ottino is one of the most distinguished interpreters of the Italian comic opera repertoire. With a career spanning over thirty years, he has performed on the stages of Italy’s most prestigious opera houses, including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and the Rome Opera House, among many others.

He has shared the stage with legends such as Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Mirella Freni, Katia Ricciarelli, and Raina Kabaivanska, and has collaborated with world-renowned conductors including Daniel Oren, Gustav Kuhn, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Gianluigi Gelmetti. His work has also brought him into collaboration with celebrated directors like Luca Ronconi, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Giancarlo del Monaco, and Beppe de Tomasi.

Since 1996, Ottino has taught opera singing at some of Italy’s top conservatories and is currently on the faculty at the “Niccolò Paganini” Conservatory in Genoa. For the past three years, he has also been part of the teaching staff at the Advanced Training Academy of the Puccini Festival. Passionate about nurturing new talent, he is also engaged internationally through his work with the Incanto Foundation of Managua, supporting the growth of Italian opera in Nicaragua.
